MANTRA NO. 1.08
Instinct is the uncageable heartbeat of the Indian creative spirit. It is the raw power of the Tandava, the sudden detour of a Hindustani raga, and the vibrant, messy life found in our ancient temple carvings.
Jagali Artspace is named for the threshold — the porch between the domestic and the infinite. We reject the sterile white box of the West. Our space is a sanctuary for the guttural, the intuitive, and the sacredly chaotic.
We believe that art is not merely performed — it is inherited, practiced, and passed on as Parampara. From the echoes of temple courtyards to the vibrant stages of modern auditoriums, we nurture instinct, discipline, and artistic devotion.
The living transmission of knowledge from guru to shishya — unbroken across generations. We protect, practice, and pass on what we have received.
The authentic expression of inner emotion. We create a space where artists are free to feel deeply, fail bravely, and offer sincerely.
The power that resides in disciplined movement. Classical forms are not relics — they are living, breathing energies that transform performer and audience alike.
Jagali Artspace begins as a small studio in Basavanagudi, dedicated to classical Bharatanatyam and Carnatic music. Guru Shankar Hegde's first workshop draws 12 students.
The inaugural Nritya Utsava brings together 60 performers across three art forms on a single stage, establishing what would become our signature annual festival.
Recognised by the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training, opening access to national scholarship programs and collaborative residencies across South India.
A landmark travelling festival crossing Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu — bringing classical arts to temple towns, heritage sites and open-air sabhas.
Collaborative Excellence Award from India's apex body for performing arts — recognition of two decades of sustained, authentic contribution to Indian classical culture.
The highest cultural honour from the Government of Karnataka, awarded for outstanding contribution to the preservation and promotion of Karnataka's classical arts heritage.
